There are three types of kitchen mixers that anyone can use whilst cooking or baking up a treat. There are even many kitchen mixers that will fit within anyone’s budget. The most common kind of mixer is the stand mixer, which as you probably guessed is the most common mixer used for making pizza dough. The second is a hand mixer, which is used for sauces, creams, soups, and anything else you can think of. The third kind of mix is known as a hand/stand mixer which is a hybrid mixer – designed to do both… obviously!

Three Different Types Of Kitchen Mixers

  1. Stand Mixers: This is the most popular type of kitchen mixer that you will find in just about anyone’s home. Most stand mixers will come with a recipe book with easy things to cook or bake to help you learn how to use a stand mixer. Stand mixers are distinguishable from hand mixers because they come with fitted bowls, come with a variety of different heads and are typically more expensive. Stand mixers have a history of being more reliable than hand mixers, this is because the stand mixer fits a bigger, more reliable motor due to its larger size. Stand mixers are also considered to be ‘upper end’ kitchen appliances, hence why many home bakers and enthusiastic cooks use them.
  2. Hand Mixers: Hand mixers are also very common. They are cheap, easy to use and are capable of mixing, blending just about anything aside from raw vegetables. Hand mixers are used when making soups, mixing cake batter and just about any other liquid ingredient or base when cooking or baking. Unlike stand mixers which are more suited to heavier duty work like making pizza dough or blending vegetables.
  3. Stand-Hand Mixers: This type of mixer is typically used for someone that needs to be able to need dough whilst also being able to mix soups. There is nothing special about these stand-hand mixers other than that they can be fixed in place to movement and allow multitasking.

What to look for in a kitchen mixer when buying (A Quick Buyers Guide)

Motor:

  • Motor quality is usually indicated by warranty. Stand mixers usually have higher quality motors.
  • If the motor has multiple settings, it is considered a good sign.
  • If your motor has high RPM and wattage, it is likely a quality motor.

Warranty:

  • A strong warranty policy on the product is a good indication on the brands confidence in the product.
  • If there is a weaker warranty policy, consider the price of the product. Can you afford to replace in the product in the next year? if not, choose a product with a better warranty, if it’s on your budget.

Price:

  • The product should be within your budget.
  • If you are willing to splurge on a nicer model, it should be justified with your cooking and baking habits – ask yourself, “do I really need it”?
  • If the product is too cheap, decide whether or not you will benefit from using the product or whether you really need to purchase a kitchen mixer for rare use.

Features and Settings:

  • Materials used or “build quality” of the mixer.
  • Number of attachments included
  • Recipe guide
  • The weight and dimensions of the product.
